internet safety

http://www.wiredsafety.org/internet101/blogs.html

When Mrs. Esser came in to our internet topics class, she gave us a presentation about internet safety and how to protect yourself. Most people don't take internet safety seriously and put their names, addresses, phone numbers, and other personal identification on the internet for anyone to see. There are web sites that people join to find other people, and those sites encourage putting all your information on the internet. There are online predators and hackers that can find your information. Some banks have online banking and you have to make sure that you completely log out of your username or anyone can access your account.
The website i found is www.wiredsafety.org. It was created by Parry Aftab. She is a corporate and cyberspace lawyer and an internet enthusiast. She also has children so web safety is probably very important to her for her children. She is part of the cyber law enforcement organization. They investigate cyber crime and train other enforcement agents. Their main cases include child pornography, cyberstalkers and missing children, and cyberscams and fraud. The website includes help for parents, cyber victims, child pornography, cyberdating, scams and frauds, and information about IM and SMS text messaging. When help is needed, you can report cybercrime, get live help, an interactive forum, internet 101, and Ask Parry. You can take polls and surveys, subscribe to newsletters, keep up on the latest protection, and you can also make donations towards the site. You can find the signs to see if your child could be a cyberbully, or are victims of cyberbullying. There is also information about downloading music. Teenangels are a part of this website. They are a group of 13-18 year old kids who are specially trained by local law enforcement. Once they have recieved full training, they run special groups in schools and communities spreading the word about being safe and responsible on the internet. Parry Aftab was the founder of this group in 1990.
At wiredsafety, the world's largest on-line safety and support group web site, there are videos for parents, teens, and children to watch about internet safety. These videos can be brought to your school by a wiredsafety representative as part of a special web safety demonstration.
There are different groups within wiredsafety. They include; Teenangels, Wired Kids, Cyber Law Enforcement, Stop Cyber Bullying, Internet Super Heroes, and Wired Moms.
This site is a good site for any parent or kid that is on the internet frequently and that do not have safe habits on the internet. The parents can watch tutorials, videos, get live help, see that their son or daughter could be a victim or a cyberbully. Kids and teens can visit this website to see that predators are actully out there and if they are being cyberbullied they can get help if they don't want to remain anonymous about being bullied. Everyone should take internet safety seriously and know that it happens everyday. This is a good website and the world's largest online help. If you are on the internet all the time, you can just type this web site in and take a visit. It may help you or prevent anything bad from happening.

Nice job on your reflection of the site. I agree that parents need to take a vital role in watching on what sites their kids are on and if cyber bullying is taking place. Keep upthe good work.
